In 2008, climbing legend Conrad Anker assembled a team to tackle the perilous and technically complex Shark's fin route to the peak of Meru in the Indian Himalayas. Experienced climber Jimmy Chin (the film's co-director) and newcomer Renan Ozturk set out with Anker on a seven-day expedition that became a physical, personal, and spiritual journey spanning several years. Co-director Vasarhelyi and editor Bob Eisenhardt weave together a story that transcends the climb and gives us unusual insight into what compels this trio to persevere in their treacherous quest. And, in its own way, the stunning photography of Chin and Ozturk becomes as much a part of the adventure as the other challenges faced by the team as we are left to marvel at their tenacious commitment to documenting their efforts.
