There are additional foods that the “rules” prohibit the user from eating, such as grains, legumes, and added sugar; these rules are meant to cleanse the body and give the user a “clean slate” going forward.

What sets this diet program apart is that from the outset, the goal of Whole30 is to change your eating habits permanently, and instead of a temporary fix, Whole30 advocates for lifestyle changes in regards to how people view and consume food. The hope is that after going on the Whole30 program, people won’t crave (or be addicted to) processed, sugary, and otherwise unhealthy foods and make healthier food choices.

The developers of the Whole30 program have written a book entitled It Starts With Food, which is a more in-depth look at the Whole30 program and the theory behind it.
