There’s a Cooking App for that!

I remember growing up with a stack of cook books in my kitchen, ready to be flipped open and used everyday. Now a days, in my house at least, there aren’t any cook books in sight! If I want an idea or a recipe, I don’t rummage through the book shelves. I go to my cell phone. There are hundreds of apps online, full of healthy (and unhealthy 🙂 ) recipes ready for your indulgence. The Next Web wrote an article about 50 Food & Cooking Apps That Rock The Kitchen with the best of the best cook book apps for you to use!

It’s very curious to me which person selects which cooking app to explore, and the reasons behind their selection. Does the consumer identify with the type of food (Chinese or Thai?), or does the consumer identify with the frame around it such as “hipster” or “on-the-go”? Look through the list and see which apps stand out to you and then ask yourself why that is. Here are a few examples from the list.

Does your schedule interfere with your healthy eating abilities? Because you have no time, you resort to a granola bar and a bag of chips. Well, your prayers have been answered! Introducing  EatingWell’s Heathy in a Hurry with their 200 best recipes that are easy and good for you too. This is great for the 2014, amateur cooker who is always on the go, which is pretty much everyone these days. Veggies and protein can be put into your fast paced schedule with ease.

Another app is Rezape, which is the ultimate social network app for foodies. You can share and send recipes to your friends and family, schedule upcoming meals and even make a grocery list. Add a new favorite recipe to your favorite list or file it into a category; its the modern version of a homemade recipe book! This is perfect for families with a rich history in cooking who are spread out around the country. With the app, it’s like they’re all in the same place cooking together!

My favorite FREE app on the lister is Cupcake Heaven. Need I explain more? There are over a hundred recipes for cupcakes for all levels of foodies. From birthdays to weddings to no reason at all, there are recipes for every occasion. Plus, the step by step instructions are easy to read. I know where I am going for a recipe, if I ever stray away from the “box” cupcakes.
