About Houghton, Michigan
Houghton is the largest city on the Keweenaw Peninsula, the most northern part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on Lake Superior. It has been listed as one of the “100 Best Small Towns in America.” Prosperous during the 1800s and early 1900s because of its copper mines, the region is referred to as the “Copper Country.” During the summer, the area is perfect for all kinds of outdoor activities and sports. The cool, fresh water of Lake Superior is never far away where visitors can swim, jet-ski, boat, and fish the days away. Summer temperatures (May-July) in Houghton can range from 40-75 °F.
