Recently in class we have been discussing the role cookbooks play in defining a group of people. They are a way to express culture, heritage, race and religion. But a recent NPR article discusses the role that food can play in creating an understanding in-between cultures. Food is a link that binds us, and gastrodiplomacy is about experiencing another countries cuisine and finding a greater appreciation for our unique differences. Secretary Clinton endorsed this new form of diplomatic outreach. As the old saying goes, “the best way to win hearts and minds, is through the stomach.”
