New Prospects in the Michigan Film Industry

A talk with Bob Brown, Executive Director of Charity Island Pictures

The Governor’s office has announced that 6,000 new Michigan jobs will be created by its efforts to attract film production companies to the state. Bob Brown of Michigan-based Charity Island Pictures will discuss the new film industry tax incentive and its growing impact on Michigan careers. Brown is serving his fourth term as a member of the Michigan Film Office Advisory Council, where he is Past Chair of the Research Committee. In 2007, he completed the MFAC Film Incentive Baseline Study, a report that was used to support the revised film incentive legislation. Brown entered the feature film business in 1999 with co-founder/partner Jeff Daniels as Managing Partner and Executive Producer of their Michigan based company, Purple Rose Films. Charity Island Pictures was formed in 2004 and has produced SILENT SCREAM (2005) and BONNEVILLE (2006), starring Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates and Joan Allen.
