Trouble the Water

Tia Lessin, Carl Deal (2008)

The most acclaimed documentary of 2008 tells the story of Kimberly and Scott Roberts, two streetwise New Orleans residents who chased down Hurricane Katrina with a home video camera. Manohla Dargis of the New York Times writes: "Mr. Deal and Ms. Lessin have the big picture in mind, not just a personal portrait. ...They have created an ingeniously fluid narrative structure that, when combined with Ms. Roberts’s visuals, news material and their own original 16-millimeter film footage, ebbs and flows like great drama." (93 min.)
