Whole Foods are just the beginning

It Starts With Food – Whole30

With recent trends towards more natural living, natural, organic food diets (such as the paleo diet) are becoming extremely popular.

The Whole30 program is a relatively new lifestyle choice that promotes changing your eating habits and cravings by eating only natural, organic foods with no additives or preservatives, and avoiding all processed foods, for 30 days (about the amount of time needed to form habits). There are additional foods that the “rules” prohibit the user from eating, such as grains, legumes, and added sugar; these rules are meant to cleanse the body and give the user a “clean slate” going forward.

What sets this diet program apart is that from the outset, the goal of Whole30 is to change your eating habits permanently, and instead of a temporary fix, Whole30 advocates for lifestyle changes in regards to how people view and consume food. The hope is that after going on the Whole30 program, people won’t crave (or be addicted to) processed, sugary, and otherwise unhealthy foods and make healthier food choices.

The developers of the Whole30 program have written a book entitled It Starts With Food, which is a more in-depth look at the Whole30 program and the theory behind it. However, the majority of the ideas and rules for Whole30 program can be found on the official Whole30 page here.

The people behind Whole30 have also created Whole 9, advocating for healthy lifestyles with emphasis on 9 factors that can influence health, more information can be found here.
