Codifying culinary information into mathematical equations is how Watson, the IBM supercomputer than won Jeopardy, comes up with delicious dishes like Swiss-Thai asparagus quiche and an Austrian chocolate burrito. IBM collaborated with the Institute of Culinary Education to build a chef that uses algorithms to analyze the chemical structure of food and the flavor profiles people enjoy. This enables the computer to suggest surprising ingredient combinations and unique recipes that could be the future of culinary creativity.
