Tumblr as an Example of Relationships

What is your relationship with food?

I logged into my Tumblr this morning and on the lower right hand side where it suggests other blogs that I might be interested in, I noticed one in particular called “Vegan Skinny Bitch.”  Inside my brain went, hmmm…and I disregarded it, but it peaked my curiosity after all.  I searched for the name in the search bar and went through Vegan Skinny Bitche’s Tumblr page.

First off, let’s back up a little bit.  Tumblr is a place that has a basic idea, but people use it differently.  The food and workout movement are big on Tumblr, along with other “fads” such as the thigh gap.  I noticed three things while going through Vegan’s page:

1. She was obviously vegan, or wanted to be from her posts about meat free sliders.
2. She (or he) was into working out and being healthy
3. I was forming a judgement about her (or him)

Some might ask, what does Tumblr and this page that I found have to do with cook booking.  But really, by looking through Tumblr pages such as Vegan Skinny Bitch or Pinterest boards that have cooking links on them, you can analyze the relationship that we has humans or women are forming with food.  Just like Tumblr varies in use, people use food differently as well.  If I come across a cookbook with a firm and fit healthy looking woman on the cover I associate her with a healthy lifestyle.  If I come across a cookbook with say, Paula Deen on the cover, I associate her with a lifestyle that uses food for entertainment and enjoyment rather than nourishment.

Blogs and pages such as Vegan Skinny Bitch that contain images of working out, fit women, and healthy looking food, shows the relationship that an anonymous person has with eating. We can’t talk about cookbooks without realizing that cookbooks were made for eating, and the kinds of cookbooks that you may pick up in the bookstore are examples of your mind’s relationship with how you eat or want to eat.
